how to make a music press kit.

a press kit is the one place a journalist, a booker, a partner or a crawler reads to find out who you are and what you have done. the kits that work in 2026 are pages on a domain you own, not files: a page can be found by Google, read by ChatGPT and sent as a link, and a PDF can only be sent. here is what goes in one and the order to build it in, with the line from Google's own pages where a step touches what Google does.

the steps, in order.

  1. write the ask, and say who the kit is for

one line at the top: what you want the reader to do (cover the release, book the act, take the call) and who to contact for each kind of request. Google's helpful-content page asks of any page who made it, how it was made and why; a kit answers the same three questions about a person or a company, and the ask is the why.

  2. put it on a page on a domain you own

the kit is a page first and a file second. Google's page on AI features says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode and no special structured data for them: a page has to be indexed and eligible to be shown as a snippet, like any page. a PDF attached to an email is neither. the page is also the link you send, so the kit never goes stale in someone's inbox.

  3. write the biography as facts, with a source behind each one

the roles, the companies, the records and the dates, each one something a reader could check. Google's helpful-content page says that of experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust, trust is the most important, and that its systems give more weight to content that shows those qualities. write three lengths (one line, one paragraph, one page) so a writer can lift the one they need.

  4. link every credit to its record

a credit is a claim. link each one to the release it sits on, and where the record has a chart position or a certification, link that too, so a claim can be checked in one click. leave out the ones you cannot link. a kit full of checkable facts is what the trust Google describes looks like on a page.

  5. mark the page up so machines know whose it is

Google's structured data docs describe ProfilePage markup with a Person as its main entity, and Organization markup that, in Google's words, helps it understand an organization's details. markup has to describe what is visible on the page: Google's guidelines say not to mark up content that readers cannot see. a label's kit carries the Organization; an executive's kit carries the Person, linked to the company.

  6. line up the official profiles

every profile that matters in your field should carry the same name, the same one line and a link to the kit. it matters twice: profiles that agree make the facts consistent, and when Google offers you a knowledge panel to claim, it asks you to sign in to one of the official sites or profiles it lists, naming YouTube, Search Console, X and Facebook.

  7. add the photographs you own, with credits

the photographs you have the right to give away, at the sizes editors ask for, with the photographer credited and one line that says what they may be used for. a kit with no usable picture gets a stock image or nothing.

  8. make the PDF a copy of the page

some people will ask for a file. make the one-sheet from the page, not the other way round, so there is one version of the facts and the page is the one that gets indexed.

    Google:AI features and your website

  9. keep it current

a kit with last year's record on top reads as abandoned, and Google's help pages say the information it shows about people and things updates as the web changes. when something changes, change the page first, then the PDF, then the profiles.

what not to do.

  • pay for placements dressed up as coverage and list them as press. Google's spam policies class buying links for ranking as link spam.

  • mark up anything the page does not show. Google's structured data guidelines say not to mark up content that is not visible to readers.

  • make a separate page for every act and every outlet with the same text swapped around. Google's spam policies call pages made mainly to manipulate rankings scaled content abuse.

or have it done.

Studio Raine builds the kit as a page on your own domain for executives, labels and rosters: the three biographies with their sources, the photo set, every credit linked, the markup, the one-sheet and the before-and-after read on Google and the AI tools. $7,500 a kit: electronic press kits. for one person, the press page is one part of the Music Industry Authority Package, $15,000, with the knowledge panel guaranteed.

questions.

what is an electronic press kit?

what should a record label's press kit include?

the label in one line, who runs it, the roster with a link to each act's own kit, the releases with their records, the press to date, the logo and photographs with terms, Organization markup on the page, and one contact for press, for booking and for business.

should an EPK be a PDF or a web page?

a web page on your own domain, with the PDF made from it. Google's AI features page says a page has to be indexed and eligible for a snippet to be shown; a file in an inbox is neither.

how long should the bio be?

three lengths: one line, one paragraph and one page, each made of checkable facts. a writer lifts the one that fits.

do I need a publicist to make a press kit?

no. a publicist places stories; the kit is the record they send. a kit built on your domain works whoever is doing the sending.

what does a press kit cost?
