how to get a Google knowledge panel.

you cannot apply for a Google knowledge panel and you cannot buy one from Google. Google builds panels automatically, for people and things in its Knowledge Graph, once there is enough information on the open web for it to be sure who they are. so getting one means making the web say one clear, consistent thing about you, in the places Google reads, and then claiming the panel when it shows.

the steps, in order.

  1. know what a panel is built from

a knowledge panel is the information box Google shows for people, places, organizations and things in its Knowledge Graph. Google says panels are generated automatically from sources across the web, that it sometimes works with data partners for topics like movies and music, and that it creates panels when there is enough information on the open web. its help pages also say its current policy is not to create or delete panels by hand. there is no form to fill in. everything after this step is about the information.

  2. search your name the way a stranger does

sign out, search your name, and write down what comes back: whether a panel already shows, who else answers to the same name, and which pages describe you. if a panel exists and it is yours, skip ahead to claiming it. if it belongs to someone who shares your name, pick the form of your name that is yours alone (a middle initial, a full name) and use exactly that form everywhere from now on.

  3. make one page the answer to who you are

one page on a domain you own says who you are in a sentence a person can read, with a photo you own and links to every official profile you run. Google's structured data docs show how a page names its main subject: ProfilePage markup with a Person as its main entity, and sameAs listing that person's other profiles. Google's own wording for Organization markup is that it helps Google understand an organization's details and disambiguate it in search results. markup has to describe what is visible on the page, and it is a way of stating the facts clearly, not a switch that makes a panel appear.

  4. line up your official profiles

LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and any profile that matters in your field should carry the same name, the same one line about you and a link back to that page. it matters twice: profiles that agree make the facts consistent, and when you claim a panel Google asks you to sign in to one of the official sites or profiles listed on it, naming YouTube, Search Console, Twitter (now X) and Facebook.

  5. get described by sources that are not you

Google builds panels from sources across the web, so what independent sites say about you counts more than anything you publish yourself. real coverage, interviews, conference and company pages, credits and databases in your field. never pay for links to rank: Google's spam policies class buying links for ranking as link spam.

  6. a business is a different panel

if you are a business that serves customers at a location or in a service area, the panel Google shows is a Business Profile, and you create and claim that yourself through Google Business Profile. it looks like a knowledge panel, but it is a separate product with its own route.

  7. claim it the moment it shows

search your name, find the panel, and choose Claim this knowledge panel at the bottom (on a phone it sits under the menu). review the details and sign in to one of the official profiles Google lists. Google's page is plain that not every panel is claimable yet, and that you should check back for the button. once verified, you can add other people as managers.

  8. correct it with evidence

as a verified subject you choose Suggest edits at the top of your panel, mark the item that is wrong, describe what should change and add public links that back it. Google says verified feedback is usually reviewed within a few days and that it can correct some things directly, like links to social profiles. a featured image can be replaced where one already shows, but not added where none exists.

Google:Submit feedback on content about you

  9. claim your Search profile if you qualify

creators, publishers and brands that already have a panel may have a Search profile generated for them, gathering their posts from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and X. Google's page says Search profiles are available in the US, Canada and India, need the claimant to be 18 or older, and need a minimum following on at least one linked platform. claimed, it lets you pin posts, add links and suggest edits to your name and bio.

  10. keep it

panels update automatically as the information on the web changes, and Google says one that showed in the past can stop showing as its systems decide when a panel is relevant. so the work does not end at the claim: keep the page current, keep the profiles in step, and check your name signed out on a schedule.
